Fiction depends on the real world quite a bit, but it’s not the real world, and too much real world can really ruin fiction. So, I decided to create this blog as a place for me to work out real world things – current events, other people’s writing, music, movies, spiritual/philosophical/heady stuff, etc. – and to generate ideas for new stories.

Any input is good input, so if you have something to say about anything you read here, please don’t hesitate to reply, either in the comments or via email.

If anything here strikes a creative chord, let’s do something together. I’m always looking for partners in crime, seeking out new avenues of collaboration, trying to mix media and metaphors and anything else that could stand a little shaking.

They say that a blog is also likely to attract the attention of people who publish fiction. This strikes me as an unlikely prospect, but I’m a sucker for Them and Their advice, and They really do say it’s a requisite of the age, so, there you have it.

I’ve published some non-fiction sports pieces and am shopping a handful of short stories. My first novel, Cleo, will be complete in 2013.

I was the recipient of the 2013 John Fowles Center for Creative Writing Fiction Award, and the 2013 Terri Brandt Joseph Award for Outstanding MFA Student.

I’m a runner, a surfer, a once-and-future-teacher, a talker, a cooker, and an erstwhile-mind-expander turned lay existentialist/secular Buddhist.

I’m a lover, man, and a liver and a laugher.
