Fiction depends on the real world quite a bit, but it’s not the real world, and too much real world can really ruin fiction. So, I decided to create this blog as a place for me to work out real world things – current events, other people’s writing, music, movies, spiritual/philosophical/heady stuff – and maybe even generate some ideas.
Any input is good input, so if you have something to say about anything you read here, please don’t hesitate to reply, either in the comments or via email.
If anything here strikes a creative chord, let’s do something together. I’m always looking for partners in crime, seeking out new avenues of collaboration, trying to mix media (and metaphors) and anything else that could stand a little shaking.
They say that a blog is also likely to attract the attention of people who publish fiction. This strikes me as an unlikely prospect, but I’m a sucker for Them and Their advice, and They really do say it’s a requisite of the age, so there you have it.
I’ve published some nonfiction and am seeking representation for my first novel.

Kudos. Remind me to tell you the story about rescuing a cow trapped in a well cellar (at the wellhead literally) on our ranch. I think the photo you have hear is of a gas well head, not oil- no well cellar, no oily mess, its the cleaner burning source of energy, plenitful these days, cheaper and potentially exportable in the Gulf. Mine that for symbolism.
[…] Ian and I were set up to meet at the conference by a mutual friend. I assumed that said meeting would never happen considering the vastness of the hotel and my inability to find people I know in a crowd, let alone a stranger. We ended up meeting in an elevator and I immediately knew he was The Guy because our mutual friend had described him as “a young James Taylor.” Nailed it. Ian is well read, smart, funny, and likes to bake bread. He’s also a really nice guy. He suffered through that incident with the Syrian gentleman who basically called me hideous and we laughed about it afterwards. He’s currently working on a novel and blogs at At The Wellhead. […]
